777 Marathon Sydney 2025

I am fundraising for Bravehearts

I am participating in Bravehearts 777 Marathon Sydney on Friday July 4 2025. I am raising money for Bravehearts, an Australian child protection organisation solely dedicated to the holistic and coordinated prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse.

My personal reasons why? Read on:

Protecting kids is everyone's job. I dedicated much of my life to this when I worked in education, and now in other ways I continue the fight. Running for Bravehearts is one of them.

It's a cause close to my heart after losing my niece Kaia to suicide at age 14, in 2021. 14kms for 14 years.

I am running for all the children who are still here - to help them get much needed therapy, and to empower them to speak out against perpetrators.

Bravehearts do incredible work, and I have used their resources many times in my fight for justice. If you work with kids, have kids, know of kids...take a look at the Bravehearts website – there are so many great resources to help us keep kids safe, and info on how to respond to disclosures.

Kaia’s story isn’t over, and her life continues to give and help others.

Please help me smash this out of the park for kids like Kaia who are still here. Let’s empower our kids to speak up, to get help – to turn the tide against the perpetrators.

The “loss” of a perpetrator’s “reputation” is merely a bringing to light of their dark truth, a breaking down of their charming little facade. It’s their fault alone.

Whatever you can give will be amazing – even a symbolic $14 for 14km. Just as powerful – arming yourself with knowledge of how perpetrators work, what to look for, and how to help a child if you suspect something is happening.

Children need us to read the signs, especially when they don't have the words to speak. We need to take them seriously, even when it hurts us to know it's a close friend or family member. Our discomfort is nothing compared to what the victim/survivor is going through.

For any survivors reading this – you are worthy of love and life. What happened to you was not your fault.

I hear you, I see you, and I believe you.

I stand beside you, and I run this race for you.

Ps, let this statistic sink in:

Did you know that 1 in 4 Australians have experienced child sexual abuse? Please donate to help fight this insidious crime.
