Hey Guys!
Tuesday 23rd JanMy name is Amy, I am an Exercise Physiologist from Canberra with a passion for running and working with young people… so it only makes sense (somewhat) that I have made the crazy decision to take on the Bravehearts 777 Challenge in 2024! Yep that’s right, I will be running 7 marathons, in 7 days, in 7 states of Australia to raise money for the Bravehearts Foundation, a charity that works to prevent sexual abuse towards children in Australia and provide support to survivors. As someone that works with children with complex trauma backgrounds often involving sexual and domestic violence, completing this challenge and supporting a charity that does work that I am passionate about will be rewarding for me both professionally and personally.
In 2022, I completed my first Ironman triathlon in Port Macquarie. One month after finishing the event, I suffered a neurological event likened to a TIA or “mini-stroke,” which led to a long and frustrating road of recovery to work through a number of issues including left-sided body weakness, vestibular dysfunction and migraine. At the end of 2023, I took on a few running events and was able to successfully complete them with no symptom “flare ups” following months of vestibular and strength rehabilitation. I decided my mind, body and brain was ready to start taking on physical challenges again and my friend Kait tempted me with the Bravehearts Challenge and well… not known to do things by halves… here I am!
I am so excited to push myself beyond my own limits and spread awareness about Bravehearts and the amazing work they do to protect our children from sexual abuse. I have committed to a fundraising goal of $11k for this cause and would be extremely grateful to anyone who can contribute by donating to me.
