families in crisis

Imagine your child has just disclosed that she was sexually abused by a close family member. After her words sink in and you’ve comforted and assured them, what do you do next? Who do you turn to for help? How will your family get through this?

When families come to Bravehearts after learning their child has been sexually abused, it is like a grenade has been thrown into the heart of their family. The impact rocks the very foundation of their lives.

Families need emotional and psychological support, yes, but often, they also need practical support.
Some families need to rebuild access to finances, housing, employment, schooling, and social connections. Suddenly thrown into an unfamiliar world, they also need support navigating the legal system, family court, Police and child safety services.

Bravehearts’ specialist counsellors are there to provide therapeutic support to help children and families heal psychologically, but they do not have capacity to guide families through the practical aspects of the journey after sexual abuse. This is where the work of a Child and Family Advocate comes in.

Please donate before June 30 to help Bravehearts reach our $150,000 target to fund critical support services such as a Child and Family Advocate.
