777 Marathon 2021 National

I'm fundraising for...

My passion in both my life and my career is mental health, and supporting others in obtaining mental health and well-being and leading a fulfilling life. So many of the challenges we face later in life originate in childhood. Child sexual assault is not only a horrendous act, but can have life long repercussions, which I don’t think any person should have to deal with.

Running has become an incredibly important resource for me in managing my own mental health, and that is one of the big reasons I’m taking part in Bravehearts’ 777 Marathon, where I plan to run 7 half marathons in 7 states in 7 days. I hope that my participation will raise both awareness and funds for this worthy cause.

Please help me meet my fundraising goal by donating online today.

End of Jan Update

Saturday 30th Jan
Hi everyone! We are coming to the end of January, and while that's a bit scary because it means June is getting nearer, it's a good time to stop and acknowledge the work that's gone into this month.
I set myself 3 goals for January:
1) Get back into a routine
2) Work more strength training into each week
3) Get on top of prehab

I am pleased to share I have achieved all 3! As you can probably tell, I respond well to positive reinforcement (sticker and star charts are my life) and this calendar brings me a lot of joy.

I am also super proud of my prehab routine at the moment. When training for my first half in 2019, I had a few minor injuries crop up which taught me the massive importance of prehab. Injuries are sometimes inevitable, but they not only put a damper on a training schedule, but my own mental health too. So this year I am putting just as much effort into injury prevention as I am to my actual running.

Please, if you haven't already done so, click that beautiful donate button and support this worthy cause! I'm off to set myself some February goals...

New Year and Ready to Rumble

Friday 8th Jan
So I've never really been a blogging sort of person, but I figure why not give it a go and set myself another little personal challenge for this year! I think the 777 is going to be an even bigger mental challenge than physical one, so it's probably worth documenting along the way.

So I'll kick us off with a little back story about my running. Growing up I was never the athletic type, in fact I used to debate with one of my best friends as to whether exercise was ever a worthwhile pass time. I tried running a few times, was set a challenge by a teacher to run a 5km race without stopping, which I did but hated. Fast-forward a few years and I tried again and even started to like running. But then due to a personal event got turned off it once again. Finally, while studying with a bunch of the most amazing people I've ever met (Music therapists are a rare and incredible breed), we started going on group runs and I totally fell in love. My (now) in-laws then convinced me to sign up for my first half marathon in 2019, and I haven't stopped running since.

As I'm sure is the case for many others, I had so many plans for races in 2020 that just never happened. Consequently, I have spent a year training for something, I just didn't know what yet. Then my inspirational cousin messaged our family about an event she had just signed up for, and I thought THIS! This is what I've been training for. This is a cause that matters so much. This is the event I want to challenge myself with. And now here I am, standing on the starting line, unsure whether I am more scared or excited about the running or the fundraising, but ready to give it a red hot crack!
