7 Marathons in 7 Days. Why:

I turn 25 in 2021 and want to do something amazing. Something I can be proud of, and look back and say “I did that”.

For my 21st birthday I got in the boxing ring for Muscular Dystrophy.

For my 25th, I’m raising money for BraveHearts.

I play an active part in my community, getting involved with my various sporting clubs (Brindabella Blues FC, The Bush Rangers, and also Tuggeranong Valley AFC). Which means I try and be a strong, and inspiring leader to the future of our clubs- which is the junior members. Under 6s all the way up until U18s.

My occupation also exposes me to a variety of children in at risk situations. And as an organisation, we swear to serve and protect.

I’m currently completing my Bachelor in Secondary Education at the University of Canberra, and am majoring in Exercise Science. Biomechanics interests me, and I am very excited to experience the mental and physical stress this journey places on my body.

Running is something I got into a few years ago when my dad convinced me to run a 10km trail event a week before it occurred. And although I’ve never really enjoyed running without a race number attached to me, I have since gone on to complete several Ultra Marathons, several Half Marathons and an abundance of shorter events. However my reason for running has never changed. I do it because of my parents. Because it’s either a way of bonding (with my step-mother and often my dad too) or it’s a point of pride (when my mum and dad are at the finish line of every event). I have a really positive relationship with my parents and the adult figures in my life (even though I am now an adult myself). And I think that’s something every young person has a right to.

I’ve never completed a marathon before. But I’m about to do 7 in a row, starting on Day 1.

Thanks for reading my story. I’m so happy you’re here, and I can’t wait to have you as part of my journey.

My Updates

The $ Half Way Mark

Wednesday 24th Feb
Wow.
$5000 down. $5000 to go.
I know I’ve been quiet in my updates. Not for lack of things to say.
I just haven’t known how to articulate the emotions.
January saw me run 10km every day. Perhaps not a big feat for many. But for me, someone who rarely trains for an event, that was the true beginning of my journey. I totalled 338.9 km for the first month of the year. (I know.. not rounding it out evenly probably hurt a few people)
February has seen me run less kilometres, but I have started testing my ability to back up. Running a half marathon, two days in a row, each week. I was able to keep my times relatively consistent, and focused more on time on feet, rather than speed. With 4 days to go in Feb, I have run 231.1km.
March, I have decided to have an overall monthly goal of 350km. With a few races, and my Army Reserves Pre-Entry Fitness Assessment, I’ll be looking at ensuring I’m getting the rest I need leading up to these.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. I really should thank everyone personally, like I have done in my previous posts, but so many people are starting to donate, it’s hard to list them in a post. You know who you are, and I’ve been sure to thank everyone personally as they come in.
I am learning so much about myself in this journey. How my body works and what it needs, that some days my mental game isn’t as strong as the day before, but I have ever growing determination (or stubbornness) and resilience, that I am so capable, and that I am surrounded by the most amazing network I could ever ask for.
126 days until the first run. So many kilometres to rack up and so many fundraisers to go.
Once again, thanks for being here. For reading. For being a part of my journey. I’m so happy you’re here.

The First $ Benchmark!

Tuesday 15th Dec
$3000!
The benchmark was $3,000 before 28 Feb. But here I am, surrounded by such amazing people who are so generous.
It’s rapidly approaching New Years, which is when I’ll commence training for the event. I’ve already registered for a few races that I anticipate taking slow, making good use of time on feet.
I cannot believe that I have raised $2,000 in under two weeks. I am so thankful. Thank you to Mick, Tracy, Clive, Amy, Mary, Ian and the Anons. I
I now have about 89km sponsored of my 295.4km week.
As always, Thanks for being here :)

The First $1,000

Wednesday 2nd Dec
I’ve been registered as a national runner for almost exactly a month.
And I’ve just hit my first $1,000.
I’m 1/10 of the way there!
I haven’t really started my fundraising journey yet, but I have some ideas in the making.
I’d like to thank my first sponsors: My grandparents, my best friend, Jane, Mary, Anon, and Jamie from Hinge.
I am so excited to be taking on this journey and I can’t wait to officially start it with my sporting communities, my work place, and my friends.
This is going to be big.
Thanks for reading, I’m so happy you’re here.

The Registration High

Thursday 29th Oct
I’ve been talking about registering for months now. Ever since my friend Jess completed the 777 in Canberra this year, and I got to be a part of it.
But I’ve flipped an abundance of times between “I can’t run 7 Marathons in 7 Days” and “You know what... sure I can”.
I’ve mentioned it to my dad, Jess, my S&C Coach, and a handful of other friends.. and they’ve all said the same thing. “Kaiti.. of course you could do it, if anyone can- it’s you. You’re inspiring”
With the encouragement from my loved ones behind me, I sit here with the biggest grin on my face thinking “I’m going to do this, and I can do this”.
It feels a little surreal, but nothing compared to what I imagine finishing the final race will be.
I turn 25 next year, and I want to do something amazing. And this will be my amazing. In so many ways. The money raised for children in need. The physical boundaries that will be pushed. The mental toughness that will be tested.
So many emotions to experience.
But for now, I’m going to sit back and be happy with my first major step in this journey.
Until next time
Kait.
